10 Things I Learnt From Game Of Thrones

The long-awaited season finale of the fifth season of HBO’s hit series ‘Game of Thrones’ got over. With it what also came to end was another season of sex, scheming and scandal. The only thing that still remains consistent is the fight to win the ultimate throne; as the various houses and kingdom are still fighting till the last blood to attain this glory.

The television drama is based on novelist George RR Martin’s series that has kept viewers across the globe hooked. And even though the story is deeply rooted in fantasy, still Game of Thrones has manages to teach us important lessons about life in the real world. Here are ten universal truths which extend far beyond the Seven Kingdoms of Game of Thrones.

1. Don’t trust anyone

Ned Stark’s death came as a shocker to many. But the man should have known better than trusting the likes of Littlefinger.

2. Bravery comes with a cost

Jon Snow fans are yet to recover from this one! With hopes that he comes back in Season 6. He was betrayed by his own!

3. Never underestimate your opponent

By sheer size he may be the not the most macho of the lot on the show but Tyrion can give men twice his size a run for their money.

4. The past is never undone

Jamie might have thought that he did the right thing to hide his relationship a secret yet the seasons of Game of Thrones have gone on to prove the fact that his past has not left him. In fact it wasn’t undone by his feeble attempt to kill Bryan.

5. Everybody makes mistakes

Sansa Stark’s fell in love with the wrong guy and since then she has paid the price of with the life of her family. With no one by her side, her life changed for the worst the day she decided to marry Joffrey and the recent mistake of trusting Littlefinger and not to forget that her most recent mistake of marrying Ramsay might just cost her, her own dear life.

6. Teenagers always cause trouble

Game of Thrones wouldn’t have been the same if it hadn’t been for King Joffrey who was drunk on power. And don’t even get me started on the amount of trouble he caused.

7. Weddings are always stressful

So far we have had three major wedding sequences in Game of Thrones and none of them have had a happy ending as such. For those wondering, I have two words for you; ‘Red Wedding’. Need I say more.

8. Life is unfair

This was perhaps one of the most brutal scene in Game of Thrones. I mean killing an unborn child in the womb is just way to… I don’t even have the words to describe it..

9. Power corrupts

Look what power made Stannis do, he got his own daughter burnt right in front of his eyes. And in Season 5 see what being high on power eventually do to him..

10. Never spare your enemy

We all know what happened when Oberyn Martell and Mountain got in the fight. If only Oberyn hadn’t showed mercy he would have lived to tell the tale.

Musing About My Muse

You meet tons of people in your life and everyone serves their purpose and moves on. The questions lies that in the hustle bustle of life, why do very few people manage to leave a mark on you at a subconscious level? And these few people stay with you for a long period of time. If not in your lives but in thoughts, actions and in your mind; I too found someone who I like to call my muse.

My muse and my source of inspiration is someone who I look up to, to understand life and its complications.  He taught me millions of things without even knowing that he was teaching. My muse bewildered me right from the word go. Strictly speaking, I had no clear image of my muse in my head. I didn’t even know if I could get inspired and even as I write this, my mind has no clear “image” of my muse in my head. He has changed and metaphorized physically and emotionally, from the very beginning. What reminded constant throughout was my fascination. Who is he? What does he stand for? What makes him who is he? How does he trick? Why would he run from love? The questions drove me on and I had to find the answers. As I tried to tread on an unknown path, I refrained from many things. Only and only; not to lose focus of where I wanted to go. I took it upon me to understand and explore (my muse) and in that very process I got what I had been looking for. And this is how I found my inspiration.

For someone who loves to write, finding the appropriate muse is a hard task. Its difficult to find someone, who can keep you inspired for so long. But at times, like me you do get lucky.  At times words come easily. Sometimes they hide from me. But mostly they are inside me waiting to come out. To unblock writer block or to get the creative juices flowing all you need to do is to get in touch with what inspires you!!

You don’t need meditation or soul searching to get inspired even a small thing like a good conversation with the right person can inspire you beyond your imagination.  He is an orator, an actor, an entrepreneur, a brother, a lover, a son, a friend but for me he is my inspiration. In one of the many interaction with the muse, I try to think clearly and figuring out what to do. As I sit next to the man in question who has bewildered many a people I know!! I smile even without trying and get inspired some more……
